‘Lite’ is the new single from Downtown Kayoto, a Zimbabwe-born, Hull-based artist who blurs the lines between indie, hip-hop and trap. Throughout this track, he maintains a unique sound, while allowing experimental nuances to make their way into a rich tapestry of inspiration. He takes influences from Skepta and UK grime, and mixes them into a groovy, housey soundscape with hip-hop beats underpinning an effortless flow. He explains that the track is “a song about fomo and feeling so slumped to a point in which you start doubting yourself and your own capabilities… This song was birthed from this frustration as well as greed. I still have so much going for me but in this song I allowed myself to vent.” His six-track EP, Learning In Public, is due for release on July 6th, 2023. -Dan Peeke.
